Robert "Bob" Girndt Obituary

Robert (Bob) Girndt, a dedicated husband, father, Papaw, and servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully at home on December 12, 2024, at the age of 93. He was born on March 16, 1931, in Houston, Texas, to Edmund and Flora (Wittig) Girndt.

Bob was raised on the family farm in Wharton County, Texas. Attended Lawson school, graduating from Wharton High School in 1948 he then attended Wharton County Junior College. He joined the U.S. Navy serving from 1951-1955. While in the Navy he became a Photographer’s Mate, and he took that skill into his professional field. When Bob came home, he attended the University of Houston, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1958. After graduating, he was employed by the Shell Oil Company, at the Bellaire Research Facility in Houston, Texas, retiring 33 years later in 1991. In the past year, his family liked to joke with him that he has been retired for the same number of years that he worked!

In 1956, Bob and some friends came to Katy, Texas for a duck hunt. While on this trip they met a couple of school teachers. One of those teachers was Barbara Morgan. A romance blossomed and Bob and Barbara were married on May 31, 1957, at Katy First Baptist Church in a ceremony presided over by her father, the Reverend David Dewey Morgan. Bob and Barbara were very active in Katy First Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and then later at First Baptist Church Houston. They made their home in Katy for the next 44 years, raising three children until Barbara passed away suddenly in 2001. In 2003, Bob met Sharon Murphy, and they were married for 22 years until her death after a lengthy illness in 2021. Bob has lived in Katy for 67 years.

For the past 3 years Bob has enjoyed spending time visiting with friends and family, reading newspapers, magazines and books. He truly enjoyed spending time with his next-door neighbor Pat Pennington, taking short trips to the farm in Wharton, running errands or watching high school football. Bob was always very active and did not want to be a bother to anyone.

Bob was a member and Past Master of the Brookshire Masonic Lodge # 1066 for over 65 years.

Bob was predeceased by his first wife Barbara, a daughter Melinda, sister, Dorothy Ann Metcalf and his second wife Sharon. He leaves behind to celebrate his life, son Robert Girndt and wife Kathy and daughter Meredyth DeBoer and her husband Mark. His grandchildren, Stacy Elenbaum and husband Troy, Bobby Girndt and wife Jennifer, Kelsey DeBoer, Gerrit DeBoer and wife Morgan, Colin Keels, Craig Girndt and wife Ashleigh and Gracie Keels. His great grandchildren Serena, Jolie, Riley, Carter, Carson, Cooper, Emma and Madison. One great-great grandchild Westin.
