Edward G. Drimak, Sr., 82, of Johnson City, New York passed away on the morning of December 13, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Edward “Ed “was the son of Andrew and Mary Drimak. He graduated from Johnson City High School as valedictorian in 1960, studied at the University of Pennsylvania earning a BS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1964, then worked at IBM for 30 years until he retired as a Sr. Technical Staff Member in 1994. Ed married Joanne (Harvilla) Drimak on May 15, 1965, at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church (now Church of the Holy Trinity) in Binghamton, NY with Father Alfred Bebel officiating. They were high school sweethearts, married for 59 wonderful years. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Mary Drimak; sister, Anne Lance; and in-laws, Michael and Susan Harvilla. Ed is survived by his wife, Joanne Harvilla Drimak; three sons, Ed Jr. (Lynn Ellsworth), Jeff (Nelly Abdelmessih), and Chris (Loree Joyner); seven grandchildren, Sierra, Mara, Anders, Aidan, Max, Lexi, and Arden; and two great grandchildren, Tatum and Bodhi, with a third on the way. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Jane (Frank) Dranichak and Patti (John) Robinson; and numerous nephews and nieces, as well as their children. Ed was an avid sports fan, especially fond of his high school alma mater, the Johnson City Wildcats. He followed his sons’ athletics careers at JCHS, seldom missing a single game, match, or meet, not to mention being a constant presence at practice as well. Ed didn’t stop once his sons moved on; he was continuously involved as a booster, hall of fame organizer, and up until this year, could be found on the football field working the sideline chains at every JCHS home football game. His dedication did not go unnoticed, and Ed was inducted into the Johnson City Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021. Also, selfless as ever, Ed was the ultimate networker for his JCHS classmates, keeping them up to date with reunions, events, and status of each other - his second family. Away from the commotion of competitive sporting events, Ed found solace landing trout in several secret fishing holes in the Owego Creek area. Ed enjoyed working with Joanne in their backyard, essentially transforming it into a wildlife refuge to be enjoyed by all who came to visit their HOME. Just prior to Ed’s passing, Ed and Joanne were honored by the Diocese of Syracuse with the 2024 Immaculata Award for their never-ending faith and dedicated service to the Church of the Holy Trinity. Ed was the epitome of a good person. In fact, it can be read in his JCHS yearbook that one teacher wrote, “We need more Drimaks in this world.” - Mr. Wildeman. Ed delivered. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 30, 2024 at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St, Binghamton, NY. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.bednarskyfuneralhome.com.
