Kathleen M. (Paquin) Wetmore, 86, peacefully passed away in her sleep on December 13, 2024. Born on February 5, 1938, in St. Johnsville, New York, she was the cherished daughter of Gordon L. and Mildred (Manclow) Lighthall.
Kathleen’s family moved to Schenectady and then settled in Rexford, New York, in her forever home, where she lived for 80 years. She was a 1956 graduate of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School.
Her career as a certified medical assistant was marked by her gentle care and warm presence, which comforted countless patients. Kathleen served the medical community with distinction, working at Sunnyview, and retired from Saratoga Schenectady Gastro. Her work was not merely a job but a calling, as she extended her nurturing spirit beyond the office to her volunteer work with hospice at the Joan Nicole Prince Home in Scotia. Kathleen also shared her caring heart with the younger generation as a nursing assistant for Glencliff Elementary School, where she was adored by students and staff alike.
She was a pillar of the Rexford Fire Auxiliary, where she dedicated more than 35 years, holding all officer positions and demonstrating leadership that inspired others to give back. Kathleen was an active member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glenville.
Gardening, playing the piano, and transforming her home into a haven for family and friends were among Kathleen's treasured pastimes. Her home was not just a structure but the warm center of her family's universe. Together with her beloved husband Duane, she embarked on global travels and created unforgettable memories. Their adventures took them to distant lands, but she always cherished the simplicity of camping in the Adirondacks with her. children, where Raquette Lake, Schroon Lake, and Cranberry Lake became backdrops for family stories that would be passed down through generations.
Kathleen's legacy is carried on by her loving children, Randel (Patricia) Paquin, James (Shawn Marcellus) Paquin, and Aimee (Douglas) Paquin Azaert; her adored grandchildren; and a treasured great-granddaughter. She joins in eternal rest her parents, brother Duane Lighthall, and her husband Duane Wetmore, who predeceased her in 2014.
Burial services at Memory Gardens will be announced at a later date.
