It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Fredrick Adams, aged 62, on December 13, 2024, at the Maison McCulloch Hospice, Sudbury.
Peter was born to Ralph (predeceased) and Anne Adams (nee Mahovlich), in 1962. He was their “middle child” wedged between three older siblings Michael (Lorraine), Stanley (Debbie) and Dianna Ceci (James) and three younger siblings, Stephen (Lisa), Daniel (Tracy) and Deborah Haffner (Brad). Although spread out in both years and miles between them, Peter and his siblings remained close. They took every opportunity to get together as a family and without Peter, these gatherings will not be the same.
Peter was married to Brenda (nee Butler) for 28 memorable years filled with love and laughter. They were fortunate to have had two beautiful children of whom Peter had immense love and admiration: Scott and Brooke. Peter was most happy when he spent time with his kids. He was so proud of their accomplishments. He looked forward to catching up during supper time and hearing about how their day was and about what was going on in their lives. He happily spoiled them and supported them in their sports, activities and interests; always encouraging them. There will forever be a void in our lives for losing a husband and father far too soon.
Peter will be forever missed by his in-laws Sue and Rick Whissell and Richard and Therese Butler. Peter was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Joyce and Frank Butler. Many memories were made travelling together and gathering for our annual family get-togethers on Manitoulin. His goofiness and laughter will be missed around the campfire.
Peter was also a much-loved uncle and great uncle to many incredible nephews and nieces as well as being a cousin and nephew to extended family.
There have been many great friends both old and new who shared life experiences and adventures, common interests, a beer or two and countless moments of laughter. Special mention of Jimmy Kolar who has been a lifelong friend.
Born and raised in Sudbury, Peter enjoyed playing hockey as a youth at Riverside Playground, playing on various teams, ultimately receiving a hockey scholarship to the University of New Brunswick. Hockey remained in his life as he enjoyed playing up until last year with a group of “seasoned” players and good friends.
While at UNB, Peter studied Mechanical Engineering and gained lifelong friendships. He loved to share stories from his years studying out East. Upon graduation, Peter returned to Sudbury where he began working at MacIsaac Mining. He later went on to work at Falconbridge (Xstrata) and eventually moved to Inco (Vale), where he recently retired from in 2021.
Peter made friends wherever he went. His easy-going, good-natured manner, sense of humour, and willingness to help others, meant that Peter was loved by all who knew him. Loyalty was a character trait of Peter’s and to prove it, look no further than his devotion to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Maybe this year they can bring home the Stanley Cup in honour of Peter!
Whatever sport Peter dabbled in, be it golf, curling, tennis, soccer, or downhill skiing to name a few, he was a natural athlete. Although he had a competitive side to him, Peter enjoyed sports mostly for the fun and camaraderie.
A mostly self-taught handyman, Peter loved working on projects big and small. When a camp was purchased on Tube Lake in 2017, Peter’s long list of projects expanded further. He loved to putter at camp and his finished handiwork of decks, staircases, woodsheds and bunkies were admired by all.
Peter and Brenda had many plans for their recent retirement together and plenty of destinations on their bucket list. Despite most of these plans having been sidelined due to Peter’s returning illness, he remained both hopeful and thankful for the time he had on this Earth, enjoying life with family and friends.
Throughout Peter’s long and winding road with cancer, he was in the care of many brilliant, caring and compassionate professionals in the medical community. Sincere gratitude goes to: Dr. Rheault, Dr. St. Martin, Dr. Pitre, Dr. Malone, Dr. Salawu, Dr. Falk, Dr. Carlson, Dr. Pun, Barb (NP), the incredible nurses and staff at Maison McCulloch Hospice and Bayshore nurses with special mention of Fatima.
Peter spent a life well-lived and to honour that, a Celebration of Life will take place at Verdicchio Ristorante in the Natura Hall on Saturday January 18, 2025, from 1:30 - 5 pm. Please come and share a story if you’d like, have some laughs, shed a tear and raise a glass to Peter.
