Maysville-Samuel L. Grayson, age 86 formerly of Tollesboro, KY passed away peacefully, Friday morning, December 13, 2024, at Cathedral Village in Philadelphia, PA from Parkinson’s disease. He was born October 18, 1938 in Sandy Springs, OH., son of the late Franklin and Nellie Grayson. Sam was a local contractor with a business spanning more than forty years.


Sam was a member of Happy Hollow Union Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially loved playing golf and enjoyed watching Kentucky Wildcat Basketball with his sons. Sam enjoyed playing softball and sponsored many local teams in past years. Sam always had time for his grandchildren and those are memories they will cherish forever.


In additional to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Grayson, Jr., and four sisters; Martha Wilson, Mildred Applegate, Caroline Johnson and Ruth Gerike.


Sam is survived and missed by his loving wife, Mary (née Helphenstine), married 66 years; his sons and their families; Timothy & Kelly, of Maysville, KY and Mark (Tony) & Sheila, of Penn Valley, PA. Forever cherished and remembered by his grandchildren, Samantha (Michael) Reese, and Nathaniel Grayson of Maysville, KY, and Charli (Matt) Grayson-Gehringer of Philadelphia, PA. His memory lives on with his great-grandchild, Olivia Reese.


Sam is also survived by brothers: Andrew Grayson, David (June) Grayson, Phillip (Lisa) Grayson all of Maysville, KY, Stephen (Susie) Grayson of Kentontown, KY, Paul (Sherie) Grayson of Lakeworth, Florida, and Mike (Donna) Grayson of Georgetown, KY and sister, Mary Esther Moore of Burtonville, KY, Sister-In-Law, Barbara Grayson of Maysville, KY and Brothers-In-Law, Tolliver T.B. Applegate, and Ronnie (Donna) Helphenstine and a host of nieces and nephews.


A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 1:00, with Mike Grayson, officiating at Moore & Parker Funeral Home in Maysville. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Garden of Memories. Visitors will be welcomed from 11:00 – 1:00 at Moore & Parker Funeral Home, 303 East Maple Leaf Road, Maysville, KY 41056.


Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Grayson, Tony Grayson, Nathaniel Grayson, Samantha Reese, Charli Grayson-Gehringer, and Philip Grayson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Helphenstine, T. B. Applegate, Larry Doyle, Terry Teegarden, and Jerry Rains.
