Graveside Service for Walter Albert McKinney, Jr., 80, of Childress, will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Joe E Jones Memorial Chapel at the Childress Cemetery with Dr. Craig Darter officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. McKinney passed from this life on December 13, 2024 in Ft. Worth.

Walter was born on January 26, 1944 in Childress to Walter A. McKinney and Frances Ida “Smith” McKinney. He enlisted into the United States Army in January of 1961 and served until January of 1964. He worked for Braniff Airlines for 18 years, the Texas Highway Department for 16 years and he built homes in the Alvord and Decatur area. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Childress.

Walter loved working, especially building fence in new pasture and raising cattle. He would check fences and cattle every day. He was very proud of his daughters and seeing his grandchildren play basketball, football and track brought him great pleasure. He enjoyed camping with Frankie in their R.V. and a lot of years being outdoors with their dog, Chester.

Walter will be missed. Losing his memory was sad for all of us. I was blessed to have him as a husband and friend for 33 and 1/2 years.-Frankie-

He is preceded in death by his parents; Walter and Frances McKinney.
