Carol Maxine Nessler of rural Rawson, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 13, 2024. She was born May 19, 1930, in Eagle Township, Hancock County, to the late Edward and Edna (Kestler) Thomas. Carol was the last surviving child of Ed and Edna. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Merle (Norma) Thomas, Floyd (Ethellene) Thomas, Harold Thomas, Clyde (Annabelle) Thomas, Albert Thomas (who was killed in WWII) and Elmer (Marjorie) Thomas. Carol graduated from Rawson High School in 1948 where she was a class officer and a cheerleader in her high school years. After graduation, she worked at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company as a secretary in the Credit Department. Later, she volunteered at Blanchard Valley Hospital for 22 years as well as helping with farm activities and being a homemaker. She loved her flowers and gardening.
Carol married Merritt Nessler on May 22, 1949, in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jenera. Merritt passed away December 2, 2020, after 71 years of marriage. She was active in the church and served as Secretary and President of the Ladies Aid. Carol and Merritt were blessed with three children, David (Frances) of Aiken, South Carolina, Gordon (Pamela) of Rawson and Charlotte (John) Wilson of Loveland, Ohio. She has eight Grandchildren Jeffrey (Jennifer) Nessler of Evans, GA, Amy (Johnny) Bouchard of Atlanta, GA, Emily (Ty) Weber of Forest, OH, Lisa (Marc) Bowman of Dublin, OH, Mark (Bethany) Nessler of Jenera, OH, Ashley (Zachary) Grice of Pleasant Plain, OH, Allison Wilson of Cincinnati, OH, and Kimberly Harrigal of Pawleys Island, SC. Great-Grandchildren include Alexander and Tate Weber, Evalyn, Cora and Grace Bowman, Caleb, Abigail, Hannah and Nathaniel Grice, Brynn Nessler and Eleanor and Jason Contant.
A funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 Main St, Jenera, Ohio 45841. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM Saturday until the time of service. A burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Arlington, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jenera, OH towards the organ replacement fund.
