George Ray Jones, 90
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of George Ray Jones on December 13, 2024. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and Veteran. Mr. Jones was also known as Baby Ray and Daddy Ray to his family. He had the ability to brighten any room with his jokes, stories, and his love of singing and playing country music songs.
He was admired for his work ethic, commitment to his community, and his ability to always lend a helping hand to whomever was in need. He enjoyed entertaining a crowd with his guitar and could sing a song so sweetly. He loved fishing, boating, golfing, gardening, cooking his catch, along with a cold beer or a short screwdriver.
Mr. Jones retired from the United States Coast Guard after 22 years of service. He was a member of the Chief Warrant Association, American Legion, Moose Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Shriner, and York Rite.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Joy Jones; daughter, Carol Comeaux; parents, Gettie Odell Jones and Dora White Jones; and his siblings, Jarvis Jones, Larry Jones, LD Jones, Naomi Hewett, Etta Mae Stanley, Edward Jones, and Jeanette Roach.
He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Gail Shields; son, Alan Ray Jones (Pam); loving son-in-law, Steven Eric Comeaux, Sr.; grandchildren, Steven Eric Comeaux, Jr. (Emily), Wesley Scott Carr (Beth), Jonathan Rene Munch (Michelle), Aaron Ray Munch (Kristin), Brett Jones, and Marvin Ray Jones; and several great grandchildren;
With sincere gratitude the family would like to express appreciation to HCA Florida Home Health. And also his devoted friends, Paul Koellen, Carol Grear, Bob and Peachie Collins, Mitch and Bonnie Seaman, Warren Martin, and many more friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until service at 3 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
