Erwin Wayne Engle, 78, of Ottumwa, died at 11:27 a.m. December 13, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

He was born June 27, 1946 in Milton, IA to Charles Thomas and Faye Scott Engle. Wayne married Kay Irene Russell on December 30, 1973 and she preceded him in death on November 26, 2024.

A 1965 graduate of Davis County High School, Wayne served in the U.S. Navy from June 1965 to October 1986, where he was a turbojet engine mechanic. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for the City of Bloomfield and then for 10-15 Transit, retiring in 2009.

He was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene. Wayne loved reading, fishing, drawing, model planes and watching John Wayne westerns. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his daughters, Christina (David) Ades of Ottumwa and Amanda (Daryl) Johnson of Brillion, WI; 5 grandchildren, Landon, Micah, Emilie, Nathan and Noah; nephew, Robert Allan Engle; niece, Cory Engle; sister-in-law, Cindy Engle; uncle and aunt, Don and Ellagene Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Larry (Carol Anne) Engle and Steve Engle; nephews, Matt Engle and Brian Engle; 2 cousins Melody Scott and Michael Scott;

His body has been cremated. A time to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
