Susan Barr Kauffmann Obituary

Mrs. Susan Barr Kauffmann age 81, of Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024.

She was born on March 31, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of the late Robert Utter and Virginia Irene Hickman Utter.

Sue, a woman of immense compassion, kindness, and an unforgettable warm smile, passed away surrounded by love. Her presence brought joy to all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished forever.

A devoted fan of college football, she held a special place in her heart for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. She embraced their motto, "Play like a champion today," as a guiding principle in her life. Her love for animals was equally profound, especially for hummingbirds, cardinals, bunnies, and her beloved dogs, including Lola. She often spoke fondly of the pets she had lost, keeping their memories alive in her heart.

She enjoyed a fulfilling career at Wilson and Nolan until her retirement. During her time there, she formed deep and lasting bonds with her colleagues, whom she considered part of her extended family. The friendships she built during those years were a source of great joy and comfort to her.

Christmas was her favorite time of year—a season she celebrated with unparalleled enthusiasm. Each December, she transformed her home into a winter wonderland filled with hundreds of Santa and snowman figurines and nearly 50 Christmas trees scattered throughout every room. Her festive spirit created magical memories for all who visited during the holidays.

In recent years, nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her grandchildren. Over the past 13 years, they became the center of her world. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and dreams: cheering on the eldest toward the Olympics in 2028, secretly hoping the second would choose Notre Dame over UGA for football, encouraging the third to pursue soccer for life, and cherishing every moment with her youngest granddaughter—her little princess.

Her legacy was one of love, laughter, and generosity. She touched countless lives with her warmth and unwavering support. May her memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to share in her remarkable life.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Vincent Paul Kauffmann; son and daughter-in-law, John T. and Melinda Kauffmann; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda Kauffmann Nguyen and Linh; grandchildren, Xavier, Alexander, Vincent, Anastasia, Karly, Jason; brother, Robert Utter; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM at Almon Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 1 pm at OLPH Catholic Church with Father Joseph Wagner officiating.
