Donald K. Day, age 87, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on December 13, 2024 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Memorial services for Don will take place on Thursday, December 19 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with graveside service to follow at the Albion cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Don was born on May 12,1937, in Summerfield, Ohio to the late Kyle and Beulah (Shackle) Day. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1955. He started working at an early age with various jobs throughout his life including grocery clerk, boiler inspector and real estate agent. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1972. After working in the steel mills in Pittsburgh, he moved his family to the Marshalltown area where he was employed from 1972 to 1999 at Fisher Controls (Emerson) working in sales and marketing for the regulator division.

Don purchased a farm near Marshalltown in 1972 fulfilling a dream of owning and living on a farm. For over 50 years Don resided on the same farm where he raised his family. He enjoyed raising cattle and operating heavy equipment on the farm including his bulldozers, excavator, and earthmover. He also had pet donkeys who enjoyed a handful of sugar cubes.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Alice (Wilson, Coleman) Day, his brother Glen Day, his sister Leatha (Day) Westenbarger, and sons Scott Day and Gary Coleman.

Don is survived by his children, David (Joyce) Coleman, Daniel (Ruth) Coleman, Harold Coleman, Mark (Edwin) Day, Paul (Lorretta) Day, Elizabeth Coleman, Julie Day, Jodi (Mark) Hofer, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Jamie Day, and brother-in-law Tom Westenbarger.
