Darlene was united in marriage to Laurence Whisney on October 8, 1953 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Jackson, Minnesota. They lived with Larry’s parents until Larry was drafted into the Army. She moved back home with her parents until Larry returned from the service. They then lived on a farm place across from Larry’s folks and later moved to an acreage by Clear Lake. In 1965 they bought a house in Jackson and had lived there ever since.
She worked many years in her married life. Darlene worked at Campbell Soup in Worthington, MN, Stokley Van-Camp in Fairmont, MN, and at Sperry for 14 years. She also worked at Hi-Lo as a waitress before going to work at Ag-Chem until her retirement.
Darlene and Larry went on many vacations with her sisters and their husbands to Las Vegas and Laughlin, NV. In the summers, they always went fishing up north for a week with her sisters and husbands and had many good times together. Darlene was very good at baking, always making Kolaches and giving them to family, friends and relatives. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, especially pinochle. Her family meant everything to her. She always had them home for the holidays and made a big dinner or supper. She enjoyed cooking and baking as long as she had someone to eat it. Her favorite meal she loved to make for her family was duck and dumplings. The grandkids and Great-grandkids were very special to her.
The last four or five years she went on fishing trips with family for a week. She also liked going gambling with her sisters or with her sons and grandchildren to different casinos.
