Alvin A. Walker Obituary

Alvin Walker was born in Watt Town St Ann, Jamaica on March 9th, 1940. He was born to the late Victoria and Harold Walker and lived in other parts of Jamaica including Kingston 11 and Waterford St Catherine. Alvin Alexander Walker, affectionately called Smiley by his family and friends, peacefully transitioned home on Friday, December 13th, 2024, before sunrise at the age of 84 years.

He was the eldest of seven children, four sisters and two brothers. Alvin, as a youngster, worked in the family grocery store after school. He was well liked by all, very trustworthy and was often left in charge of operations. After graduating from school in Watt town, St Ann, he became a professional in his field as a tradesman in Carpentry and joiner, he then advanced to becoming a professional roofer and worked in many areas helping build homes, schools and churches, he could build a home from foundation.

Alvin met his wife Etta in the 1960’s, they later got married August 22nd, 1992.

Alvin migrated to Norwalk Connecticut in the early 1990’s. He was given the opportunity to apply to the Carpenter’s union but unfortunately was not accepted even with his level of experience and expertise. The different jargons used when describing carpentry was an obstacle for him, he described it as (their lost). Instead of trying again, he moved on to become an entrepreneur, working all over for those who knew him and through recommendation from those who loved his work and professionalism.

He later found a steadier job working at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel on route 7 In Norwalk as an assistant maintenance worker until the Hotel closed. He continued working as a versatile freelance carpenter, helping many homeowners for years until he retired. He was honest, trustworthy, a hardworking professional and loved by everyone he encountered.

Alvin was known for his smile, hence the alias Smiley. He was always smiling and laughing, cracking jokes, he had a comeback for everything, quick on his thinking, you never know what will come out of his mouth, but I guarantee you, he will make you laugh.

Alvin lived a fulfilling life, spending most of his time with family any chance he got, he was very supportive of his family and would always be there when needed. We will always love and cherish him; he will forever be in our hearts.

He was preceded by his parents and 2 brothers. Alvin leaves to cherish his loving memory, his wife Etta Walker, 3 daughters, 1 son, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 4 sisters, 23 nieces and 6 nephews, as well as many cousins.
