Barbara (Clawson) Litschgi Obituary

Barbara (Clawson) Litschgi passed away peacefully on Friday December 13, 2024 at Bethel Manor. She was born on October 7, 1930 in San Pierre, Indiana to the late Kathryn (Maxwell) and Orlyn Clawson.

Barb earned degree from North Central College and later on earned her masters. After graduation, she began a long career in the healthcare field focusing primarily in dietetics. She moved to Boston where she did her dietetic internship at Mass General Hospital and then worked at the Masonic Hospital in Chicago, Indiana University (Bloomington) where she met and married her husband, Herman of 44 years until his death in 2000, St.Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, and finally at Bethel Manor.

After retirement, Barb stayed very active in learning and experiencing new things. She was a world traveler, wrote and had eight books published, earned a black belt in karate at age 73, and loved the family trips to Chicago to see her beloved Cubs play. Barb was humble, loved the Lord, and found great passion with her volunteerism at numerous nursing homes in the community which included conducting story hours, bingo and most notably for dressing in costumes for every holiday just to see the residents smile. She was humble in her work but recognized for numerous awards including the Vista Care Hospice National Volunteer of the Year. She was also active and loved her friends at Unity church where she taught Sunday School and served as an elder.

She loved her family, supported and attended many of their activities and accomplishments and was proud of all they did.

Barb was preceded in death by daughter, Fleta; her husband, Herman; and sister, Marilyn.

Barb leaves behind daughters, Mindy Jochem (Dave) and Ede Stanley (John); grandchildren, Jared Jochem (Gabby), Casey Jochem and Larry Boots (Devin); and great grandchildren, Ava and Liam; along with cherished nieces and nephews in Chicago and Arizona.
