Nellie Sun, a devoted wife, mother, nurse, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024 surrounded by her family, after a hard-fought battle against Ovarian Cancer. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ernest, and her two children, Andrew and Chrissy, who were the light of her life.

Born on August 3, 1957 in Manila, Philippines, Nellie was the eldest of Fe & Celso Ferros' eleven children. She helped her parents take care of her siblings while also attending school. Nellie graduated from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. After graduating, she traveled from the Philippines to the United States in search of a better life for herself and her family.

Nellie started her life in the States living in Brooklyn, New York, where she eventually met the love of her life, Ernest. The two of them were introduced at an apartment gathering where they were partnered for a game of Newspaper Dancing (similar to that of Musical Chairs). That was the start of their lives together.

Aside from starting a family with Ernest, Nellie dedicated her career to the care of others, serving as an emergency room nurse and later, after earning her Master's degree in Nursing from Seton Hall University, as a nurse educator, inspiring countless colleagues and students with her compassion, skill, and tireless dedication to healing. Her coworkers and friends remember her as a calming presence in times of crisis and as a mentor who always had time to listen and guide.

Nellie was blessed with a large extended family and a circle of friends who cherished her warmth, generosity, and radiant spirit, all of which showed through her favorite hobby of dancing. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on through her family and the countless lives she touched.
