Richard L. Ethington, age 89, of Belleville, IL, born on October 15, 1935, in Chester, IL, died on Friday, December 13, 2024, at home with his family.
Richard worked as a mechanic at Wiese Planning & Engineering in Sauget, IL. He was a Charter member of Trinity Pentecostal Church of God, in Fairview Heights and now Covenant Worship Center. Richard had the greatest hugs and was every kid’s grandpa. He would help anyone at any time and could fix anything except a TV. He loved cooking and had the best recipes, but he could not tell you how to make it.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Veda Mae Ethington, nee Thompson; his daughter, Joyce Ann Osteen; his stepdaughter, Kendall Zehnle; his parents, Richard and Alberta (nee Luthy) Ethington; his brothers, Calvin Ethington, David Ethington and Vernon Ethington: and sister, Alice Gibson.
Richard is survived by his wife, Neva Lucas; his daughters, Veda “Marie” ( Ralph) Pyle of Belleville, IL, Carolyn “ Sue” (Bill) Cross of Belleville, IL and Angela (Charles) Seger of Caseyville, IL; his stepdaughter, Debra Stewart; his 9 grandchildren Cathrine Hay, Richard Hay, Emily (Robert) Jackson, Amanda (Gilman Jr) Ouellette, Robin Cross. Mindy (Randy) Craig, Charles (Diana) Seger Jr, Patrick (Jessica) Seger, Heather (Andrew) Buffey; his 17 great grandchildren, Hannah, Alisha, Tyler, Ryan, Kayden, Jedidiah, Aliyah, Lucy, Hezekiah, Rosemary, Mary Gail, Veda, Neveah, Elijah, Tosh, Kaiden and Jayla; 2 brothers, Roy (Geraldine) Ethington, and Dean Ethington; sisters-in-law, Carol Dean and Beryl Ethington. Richard is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Il. Visitation will also be held on Thursday morning December 19, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary with Pastor Stephen Martin presiding. Interment will follow at Caseyville City Cemetery, Caseyville, IL
