It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Glendon McDonnell (Glen) who left this world peacefully on December 13th, 2024, at the age of 66.

Born in Belledune, Glen was the son of the late John McDonnell and late Kathleen Dewitt (Young). 

Glen is survived by his sons Joshua McDonnell and Dylan McDonnell, grandson Alexander McDonnell, sister Debbie (Phil) Goudreau, sister Jo-Anne Hache, brother Frank McDonnell, brother Michael (Marilyn) Guitard- McDonnell and many nieces and nephews. 

Glen was pre-deceased by his brother Lindsay McDonnell, his nephew Chris McDonnell, his sister Patricia Boucher, and his nephew Corey Boucher. 

Glen was a long-time resident of Belledune and later moved to Ontario where he began his career with the City of Mississauga and where he started his family. 

Glen always held a special place in his heart for the roots of home, and he returned to live in Belledune in 2022 following his retirement. Returning home and being near his siblings brought him much joy and happiness. 

Glen held deep love for his sons and grandson and would light up when recounting stories or expressing the immense love and pride he felt for each of them.

A man of faith, Glen found strength and guidance within the pages of his Bible and in his spiritual music, which brought him solace in navigating through life’s challenges. 

Glen will be remembered for his love of laughter, good times, and his love for his family. His laughter and love will live on in the hearts of Joshua, Dylan, Alexander, and his family who will carry his spirit forward into their own lives, ensuring that a piece of him remains forever. As we mourn the loss of Glen, we take solace in celebrating his life and memories shared. 

Many thanks to the staff at Chaleur Regional Hospital’s 5 East and Palliative care units for their kindness and excellent care. 

In accordance with Glen’s wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral. In memory of Glen, donations can be made to Canadian Liver Foundation.

Rest peacefully, Glen. Your journey on this earth may have ended, but your spirit will remain with us always.
