Kenneth Charles Walraven, 87, of Pinconning, Michigan, went to his heavenly home with family by his side on Friday, December 13, 2024. He was born on October 23, 1937, in Essexville, Michigan to the late Charles and Phydalis (King) Walraven. Ken married Mary Jo Balwinski on August 15, 1975, in Bay City, Michigan, she predeceased him. Ken served our country after graduating high school. He often talked about his time in the military and joked that he was the honorary seamstress. He worked for many years at Consumers Power in Essexville and also farmed. After retiring from consumers, he started KC Lumber Products. Ken was finally able to do what he loved. His business grew by word of mouth. He took much pride in his work, and it can be seen in many homes and businesses in the area.
After retirement, Ken and Mary Jo had many adventures in their 5th wheel and traveled all over the U.S.A. They visited most of the National Parks. They enjoyed their trips to North Carolina to visit their children and grandchildren the most.
Ken loved anything wood and keeping busy. When the business slowed he started woodcarving. Of course, he was good at that, too. There was nothing he couldn't do. He loved to be outdoors, hunting, gardening, and feeding the fish in the pond. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his children; Sandy (Marshal) Bean of NC, Scott Walraven of Florida, Renay Weigle of Pinconning, Terri Kelsey of NC, and Stacey Weigle of North Branch. Eight grandchildren, Alexia Grezeszak, Elyssa Weber, Ethan Bean, Haley Bean-Zwick, Chelsey Pany, Hannah Weigle, Sam Kelsey, Ryan Kelsey. Three great-grandchildren; Mason Grezeszak, Dani Zwick, Levi Herron. Two sisters, Nancy (Denny) Vert, Ilene (Tom) Weber. Several nieces, nephews, and friend Craig (Debbie) Coplin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo. Son, Nathan Walraven. Infant daughter Annette Walraven. Grandson, TJ Grezeszak. Brother, John. Sisters Lynda (Kit) Wright, Luann Walraven.
The family would like to thank Tammy Childs, Rosie and Carl Walls for all their help.
A memorial honoring Ken will be announced at a later date.
