Ernest "Bill" L. Sturgeon Obituary

Ernest (Bill) L. Sturgeon, Jr, age 79, passed away in Wichita, KS on Friday, December 13th after a battle with Covid. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, December 20, 2024, at Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Howard with Military Honors by the Howard American Legion, where he will be laid to rest next to his mother, Charlotte. 

Bill was born June 24, 1945, in Huntington Park, CA. His mother, Charlotte (Christensen) Sturgeon later moved back to Winfred, SD where she married George Maroon. They went on to have four children, Larry Maroon, Cheryl (Maroon) Goeman, Cathy Maroon who died at birth and Karen (Maroon) Mathison. Bill graduated from Winfred High School and joined the Air Force, honorably serving as a Weapons Mechanic during the Vietnam War in the late 1960's.  He and his first wife, Janice, had one child, Troy (Diane) Sturgeon of Sioux Falls. He later married his second wife, Diann and they had two daughters, Melissa Sturgeon and Monique Sturgeon of Wichita, KS. Bill was a Railroad Engineer in Wichita, KS until his retirement. His passion was bowling and had several 300 games. 

Ernest Sturgeon, Jr is survived by his three children, Troy (Diane) Sturgeon of Sioux Falls, Melissa Sturgeon and Monique Sturgeon of Wichita, KS, his stepson Todd Radovich, his Brother, Larry Maroon of Logan, NM, sisters Cheryl (Rod) Goeman of Sioux Falls and Karen (Scott) Mathison of Madison, SD along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his second wife and his sister, Cathy.
