Jim Thompson Obituary

James Benjamin Thompson, 85, from Greenleaf, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, December 13, 2024.

He was born on October 7, 1939, in Nelson, WI to Vernon and Virgil (Markey) Thompson.

Jim earned his degree in Pharmacy at UW-Madison. He was certified by the State of Wisconsin as a Registered Pharmacist in April of 1964. Jim worked tirelessly for over the next 40 years helping others.

On May 2, 1964, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marilyn, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Onalaska, WI. Together they built a home on 3 acres of land under the Niagara Escarpment, where they raised their two children.

Not one to sit still, Jim had many passions which included being an avid Packer fan, an Optimist member, Pharmacy Association member, golfer, hunter, gardener, and a lover of downhill skiing. With a passion for wood working, Jim spent many hours in his workshop creating beautiful bowls. He and Marilyn started an orchard that turned into a vineyard to make wine. He and fellow Pharmacists Fred, Bill, and Wayne jointly owned the Rx Ranch, a 100-acre parcel for hunting. It was time, though, that he spent with his family that brought him the most happiness.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn, their children; Sarah (Scott) Renn of Excelsior, MN., and Michael (Carol Aziz) Thompson of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Grandchildren; Amanda Renn & Katy Renn, Aidan Thompson & Maya Thompson. His sister, Linda Adams, Onalaska, WI., Sister-in-law, Jackie Thompson, Onalaska, WI., and his nieces; Brenda Thompson, Weston, WI., Lori Lewis, Owensboro, KY., Carrie Pittman, Holmen, WI., and Chris Freeman, New York, NY.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Daniel Thompson, niece Michelle Berg, and brother-in-law Mike Adams.

Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere from 10:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2025, until time of service at 11:30 AM with Deacon Ken Kabat officiating, light lunch to follow.
