Gwenn Eyer Obituary

Gwendolynn Sue “Gwenn” Eyer, 67, of Jacksonville, IL passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, at her home.


She was born on Apr. 22, 1957, in Robinson, the daughter of Glenn and Beverly June (Miller) Henderson. She married Glenn Eyer on June 26, 1982, in Olney and he survives.


She is also survived by three sons and two daughters, James Eyer, John (Sarah) Eyer of Alton, Kerri Eyer of Jacksonville, Linsey (Mico) Ornelas of Springfield, and Casey Eyer of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; and one sister, Deb (Wade) Heatherly of Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one grandson, Maxwell Eyer.


Mrs. Eyer was a 1975 graduate of Newton (IL) Community High School, and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. She then taught for two years at a private school in Pennsylvania. She and Glenn were married in 1982 and moved to Alton where she taught at Mississippi Valley Christian School and began a 24-year career as a Meeting Planner and Foster Parent Law Manager with Illinois Department of Children & Family Services. In 2007, upon earning her Master Certificate in Essentials of Hospitality Management from the Cornell University School of Hotel Adminstration, she and Glenn moved to Jacksonville to become the Innkeepers at Blessings on State Bed & Breakfast. Gwenn was very active in the community and many clubs and organizations, including Daughters of the American Revolution, and Jacksonville Convention & Visitors Bureau, serving as Past-President and current Board Member for the past 17 years. She had also served on the Illinois Adoption Advisory Council for six years.


A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army of Jacksonville, Midwest Youth Services, or the Crisis Center Foundation. A fund has also been set up at Petefish, Skiles & Co. Bank, the Gwenn Eyer Blessings Fund, to assist with expenses. Condolences may be left at buchanancody.com.
