Charlotte Ruth Udy (Streufert) peacefully fell asleep in the arms of her Lord December 13, 2024. We can rejoice that she is now in heaven with the saints where there is no more sorrow or sadness.
Charlotte was born in Pierre, SD, on Nov. 15, 1941, to Rev. Edgar and Verona Streufert. In her youth she lived in Pierre, South Dakota; Glencoe, Minnesota; Aberdeen, South Dakota; and Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Concordia College, River Forest, Illinois, where she met her future husband, Ron Udy, on a blind date after he came there to play in a basketball game. Charlotte taught grades K-4 for one year in Iowa and Kindergarten for many years at St Paul Lutheran School in Ogden.
After their marriage in the summer of 1964, they lived in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and finally in Utah where Ron taught in Lutheran schools. She was blessed with three sons–Dan, David, and Jonathan, and daughter Kristin. Charlotte's real enjoyment in life was being a homemaker and a mother. She enjoyed crafts, playing games, and spending time with her nine grandchildren and two great grand-children. Making Christmas cookies was a special favorite of hers. She had many friends and especially enjoyed her coffee friends. We remember the many camping trips our family of 6 (then 5, then 4) took, often with our friends. In her last years she spent many hours with adult coloring books, coloring Bible verses and words of Jesus.
She is survived by her husband Ron; brother Rev. Phil (Becky) Streufert of Seattle, WA; sons Dan (Starr) of Syracuse, UT; David (Brooke) of Nolanville, TX; Jonathan (Nicole) of Mobile, AL; daughter Kristin (Tim) of Pocatello, ID, and grandchildren Tristan (Stacey), Cecelia, Bleu, Gwyneth, Hayden, Jagger, Jaric, Ethan, and Kate; and great-grandchildren Tarika and Lincoln.
A viewing will be held on Monday, January 6, from 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary in Ogden. The committal is planned for Tuesday morning, January 7,at 9:30 am at Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park, followed by a Celebration of Life service at St Paul Lutheran Church in Ogden at 11:00 am.
Memorials may be made in her memory to Samaritan’s Purse, which she loved to support by donating to their disaster relief fund and through their yearly Shoebox Ministry at Christmas time.
Psalm 118:14 reminds us, “The Lord is my strength and my song, he has given me the victory.”
