With a heavy heart, Barbara Ann Whelan at the age of 85 years old passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 13, 2024. Barbara was born on July 11, 1939 in the Bronx to William and Edith Ostrander.

In May of 1960, Barbara married Thomas M. Whelan. Together they enjoyed spending their time at the Morris Yacht and Beach Club surrounded by their family and friends. Family meant everything to her. She was a loving mother to her 6 children - Jeanne, Thomas, James, Robert, Michael and William. Barbara was a proud grandmother to 12 grand children - Sarah, Kevin, James, Rachel, Briana, Brennan, Andrew, Christine, Isabel, Thomas, Ryan, and Lilly, who she was so blessed to spend time with. She was fortunate enough to witness and meet her 2 great grand children - James and Julia. There is nothing more that Barbara enjoyed than being surrounded by her children and their kids.

Barbara enjoyed playing cards with friends at the Senior center, spending time at the beach in the sun, and being around her family. She lived her life to the fullest each and everyday.

Visitation will be held at Schuyler Hill Funeral on Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

A mass of Christian burial to honor and celebrate Barbara’s life will take place at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea in City Island at 10:00 am on Monday December 16, 2024.

Following the mass, Barbara will be escorted to her final resting at Pelham Cemetery in City Island, NY.
