Irene Elizabeth Bergin of Port Washington, New York passed away peacefully on December 13,

2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 96. The daughter of Thomas and Josephine

Brooks, Irene was born in New York City on April 7, 1928, the youngest of three children.

Irene is predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. James F. Bergin, whom she married in 1956.

Together they moved to Port Washington in 1962 and raised six children: Eileen Crabill

(Steven), Ann Bergin, Martin Bergin (Barbara), Kevin Bergin (Michelle), James Bergin (Lucia)

and William Bergin (Elizabeth). Loving grandmother of James (Danielle), Kelly (Liam), Annie,

Michaela (Wilson), James, Ryan (Tegan), Meaghan, Mackenzie, Timothy, Harrison, Luca,

Juliette, Claire, Eric, and William. Great-grandmother of Isla and Seamus. Sister-in-law of Mary

Tartaglione. Predeceased by her siblings, Edward and Dorothy.

In repose at the Fairchild Funeral Chapel at 1570 Northern Blvd Manhasset on Monday from 4-8

pm. Funeral mass Tuesday, 10 am at St. Peter of Alcantara Church in Port Washington. In lieu

of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Peter’s Little Learners or St. Jude’s Children

Research Hospital.
