The Village of Turners Falls became his lifetime residence.
Mark leaves his life partner, Kathy Webber, his sister Jacqueline “Jackie” Galvis, his Aunt Charlotte Choleva and cousins… Gary, David, John, Denise, Charlene, Charlie, Fay, Dolores, Rich, Bobby, Jimmy, Danny and Kenny … AND …his beloved cat Lilly.
Mark attended school in Turners Falls for all 12 grades and graduated in 1969 along with the largest baby-boomer class at TFHS, creating many lifelong friends.
His favorite poem “Death of a young athlete” reminded him of his youthful experiences in sports and success at Football and Baseball, with such rewarding support from the many Turners Falls “Powertown" friends.
He also attended Vermont Academy (continuing with baseball and football).
He was accepted at Boston University with Football scholarship and majored in Education.
Mark’s larger than life personality made him a beloved figure in his community. He was known for his gregarious nature, always ready to tell a story, share a laugh, or offer a helping hand .Mark enjoyed discussing historical events about his Town of Montague and sharing his knowledge with others.
Mark had a diverse and fulfilling career working as a Conductor and then Division Superintendent at the Railroad where he earned a reputation for his dedication and skill.
In addition, Mark was a skilled glass blower, a craft that brought him joy and allowed him to express his creativity.
Together with his partner Kathy, Mark enjoyed traveling, exploring new places and creating lasting memories. They always celebrated special events in their lives with a stay at York Beach, Maine. Their shared adventures were a testament to Mark’s zest for life and his deep love for Kathy.
