GREELEYVILLE - Newell Aubrey Myers, 92, widower of Naoma “Nell” Horne Myers, died Friday, December 13, 2024, at his home.
Born June 17, 1932, in Olanta, he was a son of the late Heyward Stanley Myers and the late Mary Lewis Myers. He attended Olanta public schools and graduated from Clemson University with a BS degree. He served with the 17th Infantry Regiment in Korea as a Company Commander and Liaison to a Thailand attachment.
Newell was President of Colonial Production Credit Association and former Vice-President of Pee Dee Farm Credit. He served as a commissioner of Williamsburg Soil & Water Conservation, director of Williamsburg Memorial Hospital, and director of Williamsburg Farm Bureau. Following his retirement from Pee Dee Farm Credit, he and his wife purchased Mishoe Oil & Propane, Inc., which he managed until his health failed. He was also the owner of Mount Hope Farms, which he farmed in addition to his full-time jobs. Newell served as a board member, and later President, of Farmer’s Telephone Cooperative. Newell had an entrepreneurial spirit and started many business ventures, including Woodland Services, Santee Farmers, Greeleyville Mobile Home Park, F&M Trucking, and was co-founder of Greeleyville Library.
He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Still, and her husband, Rhett, of Manning; his son, Newell Aubrey “Bo” Myers, Jr. and his wife, Trisha, of Fuquay-Varina, NC; grandchildren, Justin Still, and his wife, Ashley, and their children, Justin, Jr. “JJ”, Jakobi, Mitchell, Callie, and Colton; Dr. Jenna Still, and her husband, Dr. Tyler Smith, and their daughter, Violet; Mylo Myers, Annie Myers and Charlie Newell Myers; and loving friend and companion, Melinda Ross.
He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years; his parents; sister, Mazine Mixon; and brother, Stanley Myers.
The family would like to thank the staff of McLeod Hospice for their devoted care, especially Kari, Teresa, and Marci. The family also wishes to thank his wonderful caregivers, Francine Barnes, Ferma Scott, Beverly Stephens, Yvonne Brown, Gail Brown, Lou Ellen Brown, and Cynthia Brown, for their devotion and care.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Greeleyville with the Rev. Marty Hodge officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service and other times at the home of his daughter, 1122 Cherokee Drive, Manning.
