Frances "Liz" Hudgins Obituary

Frances Elizabeth “Liz” Miller Hudgins, age 87, entered her eternal heavenly home on Friday, December 6, 2024. Liz was born October 2, 1937, to Clyde and Bernice (Longan) Miller in Mountain View, Oklahoma. As a young girl, Liz enjoyed being outdoors, cooking, and taking care of older people in her community. That was a calling that continued throughout Liz’s life as long as she was physically able, believing she benefited as much as they did by hearing their life stories and learning from their wisdom.

At an early age, it was evident that Liz had an amazing soprano singing voice, and she was even encouraged to pursue a professional career. Instead, at just 16 years old, Liz married the love of her life, Toby Hudgins, on February 27, 1954, just weeks before Toby was inducted into the Army. While he was serving his country, Liz finished high school and saved every dollar she could so they could start their life together when Toby returned home.

In the first six years of marriage, they moved more than a dozen times as Toby followed his highway/turnpike construction assignments, eventually putting down roots in the Midwest City area as the kids were starting school. Toby, Liz and their three children began attending Eastside Church of Christ in the mid 60’s. Liz was a very active member, leading singing in ladies’ bible class for decades, and viewing her vocal talent as her ministry by singing without charge at funerals, weddings, etc. She loved to sing. Even with mobility being a challenge during her final weeks at Morada, the singing events could coax her out of her room.

Liz was preceded in death by her mother, father, her seven siblings, her beloved Toby, as well as her son, Floyd, and daughter, Crystal. She is survived by son, Don Hudgins, and his wife, Kathy, and granddaughter, Amanda, grandson Charlie Stepp, and great grandchild, Arryana. Other grandchildren include Jasheena, Jared, and Jessica Hudgins.

Service celebrating Liz’s life will be Friday, December 13 at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home at 1:00pm. Interment will be immediately after at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tunnels to Towers (T2T.org), as Liz was a proud supporter of American veterans and first responders.
