Annette F. Tierney, R.N.

Annette Fournier Tierney, R.N., age 93, of Issaquah, Washington, formerly of Westerly, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 20, 2018, with her son, John and daughter-in-law Jane by her side. She was also the mother of the late Timothy J. Tierney who predeceased her in 1996. She was married to Dr. Thomas D. Tierney in 1949 until his death in 1971. They made their home in Birmingham, Michigan after residing in many locations including Lima, Peru, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Ann was a 1948 graduate of RI Hospital School of Nursing in Providence, RI. She returned to nursing after moving to Westerly, RI. She attended St. Pius X Church of Westerly, RI and became a faithful parishioner and lector. Her passion for music was an important part of Anns life. She was an eager member of the George Kent Choir of Westerly. For more than 30 years, Ann travelled with the Chorus to their many European concerts and participated in all of their musical programs. In 2006, Ann relocated to Issaquah, Washington to be near her son and his family. She became a daily communicant and volunteer at St. Josephs Catholic Church. In spite of her age, she happily volunteered for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce, and the Issaquah Library while clearly loving every experience. She was an avid knitter and needlepoint enthusiast. No project was too difficult for her to attempt. Her family will cherish her many completed projects of rugs, afghans, and sweaters. Besides her son and daughter-in-law, Ann is survived by her treasured grandchildren: Andrew, Jacob and his wife, Cassie, Jocelyn, and Carolyn Tierney. Annette was the daughter of Jean (John) Baptiste Fournier, her mothers, Rose who passed when Ann was 7, and Floria Fournier. She was the sister of Jeanne (Joan) Rushlow, and her husband Clifford of Westerly, RI, and her brother, Jean (John) R. Fournier and his wife, Dolores (DeeDee) Fournier of Puyallup, Washington. She also leaves loving nieces, Denise Oliveira, Elaine Finan, and nephew John Rushlow, and their families. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Todd Strange on Friday, November 16, 2018, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Issaquah, WA at 11:00 AM. A reception for family and friends will follow immediately afterwards at the church hall. Interment at the Issaquah Hillside Cemetery will be private. The family suggests remembrances to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Family and friends are invited to share memories and sign the on-line guest book at www.flintofts.com.
