Hon. Joyce Knowles Crouch

Hon. Joyce Knowles Crouch, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018. She was the wife of the late Hon. Joseph P. Crouch. Born in Lynchburg, VA on January 16, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Bernard Purdy Knowles and Ellie Mae Patterson Knowles Shields and was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Knowles and his wife, Carol G. Knowles; a sister, Carolyn K. Newman and a nephew, Robert B. Newman. Joyce graduated from EC Glass High School, Lynchburg College and was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1990 after the death of her husband and served until 1997. She was a member of Memorial Christian Church and over the years has served on many boards: United Way, Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation, Virginia YMCA, Lynchburg College and Lynchburg City Republican Committee. She received many awards, including: Lynchburg Academy of Women, Outstanding Women in Government, Virginia Exchange Club and Distinguished Virginia. She is survived by a brother, Patrick L. Knowles and his wife, Sylvia; nieces, Allaina J. Newman, Vicki K. Clarke and her husband, Chuck, Dianne K. Davis and her husband, Ron, Lori J. Burke and her husband, Don; a nephew, Douglas B. Knowles and his wife, Matisa and many great-nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Memorial Christian Church by the Rev. Virgil Knipp and the Rev. Sue Knipp, with burial to follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Monday, October 29, 2018 at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road.
