Donald W. Fessenden Obituary

Mr. Donald W. Fessenden, 95 years of Swampscott, died on Saturday, October 20, 2018 in the Bertram House in Swampscott. He is the husband of the late Mary L. (Hay) Fessenden. He was born in Lynn, February 1, 1923, the son of the late Wallace and Mabel (Burnham) Fessenden and was a longtime resident of Swampscott. He was a 1940 graduate of Lynn English High School. He also attended Bentley College of Business, Massachusetts Banking Institute, and Northeastern University. He was employed for 43 years at the First Colonial Bank, formerly Lynn 5 cent Savings Bank until his retirement in 1985. He opened the Branch Bank, now Eastern Bank in Vinnin Square in 1967. He was manager and Assistant Treasurer until his retirement in 1985. He was active for many years in banking circles. He was treasurer for many years of the Swampscott Rotary Club. Donald was a WWII Veteran serving in the European African and Middle Eastern Theatres, serving in England, France and Belgium from 1943 to 1946. He served in the US Army as a Military Policeman in Military Police Battalion Company D, 786 in Northern France and the Rhineland. He was active in community affairs and a member of the Mount Carmel Lodge of Masons, the American Legion, Swampscott Little League, Swampscott Rotary, a Director Savings Bank Forum of Essex County, Treasurer Vinnin Square Merchants Association, Church of the Redeemer in Swampscott, Treasurer of the Swampscott Pop Warner, Swampscott Boosters, Treasurer Swampscott Heart Fund 1977 to 1978, Swampscott Senior Center and the Meadow Larks of Lynn. He is survived by his son David. Fessenden and his wife Evelyn of Marblehead, a daughter Gail Evangelista and her husband Fulvio of Swampscott, four grandchildren, Kate Swanson and her husband Erik, Kristi Fessenden, Michele Bourdeau and her husband Jonathan, Sarah Evangelista, four great grandchildren Paxton and Keegan Swanson, Jack and Ryan Bourdeau Visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street (Rte1A) Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Private Burial in Swampscott Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Swampscott Senior Center, 200 R Essex Street, Swampscott, Massachusetts 01907.
