William Cornish Jr. Obituary

WILLIAM "SONNY" CORNISH JR., son of the late William Cornish Sr. and Olivia Cornish was born on March 29, 1941 in Isle of Wright County, Virginia. After a lengthy illness, Sonny transitioned to be with the Lord on Friday, November 22, 2024.

Sonny was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and served as a faithful Deacon at Greater Gethsemane Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Reginald Thomas Sr., Senior Pastor. Nothing stopped Sonny and Sadie (his red scooter) from attending Sunday services together.

Sonny was employed with Freight Drivers Local Union 557 for over 30 years until retirement. Sonny enjoyed caring for horses; arabbing throughout Baltimore, going to the racetrack, watching sports and westerns on weekends; attending family gatherings, shopping at the flea market, taking photos for new memories and he loved to dance.

Later in life, he was a proud member of Johns Hopkins ElderPlus for over eight years. ElderPlus was Sonny's home away from home and he loved his extended family. As Sonny would prepare to attend ElderPlus, he would not allow interruptions. He would say, "I'll call you back, I'm getting ready for work." They would go to trips, have holiday gatherings, birthday parties, design jewelry and more. Sonny successfully completed the ElderPlus Living Well (Chronic Disease Self Management Program).

Sonny was married to Estelle Cornish and they shared three children. Later they divorced. Later in life, he moved to Fl. and met Darlene Timmons. They married and lived in Delray Beach, Fl. for several years. This marriage ended in divorce.

Sonny successfully completed the inpatient program at National Recovery Institutes Group in Fl. He was a sponsor for over 26 years to men and women with drug and alcohol addictions.

Over the years, Sonny was known for his generous personality and contagious smile. He was loved by everyone that he encountered.
