Arvil Lee Leadbetter of Jackson, formerly of Marble Hill, passed away Friday, November 29th at his daughter’s home at the age of 88.
Arvil was born In Marble Hill on July 31, 1936 to Paul and Myrtle Eaker Leadbetter. Arvil married Reba Buttry on June 28, 1958 in Mississippi.
Arvil worked at many jobs from owning his own gas station in the 1960’s to working at the Lutesville Pallet Company for several years and then working for the City of Marble Hill for his last 10 years of employment. He loved working, especially making furniture and toys for his children and grandchildren and taking care of his garden and lawn at his house in Marble Hill. His grandchildren believe that he had the best strawberries around! Even with the terrible dementia that took his memories the last few years of his life, he continued thinking that he was working hard every day up until the end!
Arvil was a man of faith and a great study of the Bible. In his youth he attended Locust Grove Church and then he and Reba raised their 3 children at Hahn Chapel General Baptist. Later he was a deacon at Harmony Methodist Church and then attended First General Baptist of Marble Hill. After it became too hard to physically go to church he and Reba watched the online services of Connection Point Church.
Survivors include his wife, Reba Leadbetter of Jackson; sons, Frank (Susan) Leadbetter and Gary (Julie) Leadbetter both of Jackson; and a daughter, Gayla Schubert of Jackson; nine grandchildren, Joni (David) Warren, Jeff (Robin) Brown, Justin (Rachael) Leadbetter, Kristi (Amos) Macharia, Matt (Kay Lee) Leadbetter, Meagan (Davis) Gregson, Morgan Schubert, Tyke (Taylor) Schubert, and MacKenzie Schubert; seventeen great grandchildren, Christian, Shelby, Erin, Taylor, Banner, Brett, Cody, Colton, Ashton, Mason, Kamden, Lucas, Grayson, Jayden, Carson, Peyton, and Zoie; and three great-great grandchildren, Hadley, Olivia, and Daisy; brother, Larry (Brenda) Leadbetter; sisters, Glenda (Bill) Woodard), Neda (Tony) Chambliss, and Melba Leadbetter; sister-in-law, Corrine Leadbetter; Reba’s sisters, Koren (late Gerald) Lincoln and Rena Buttry; Reba’s brothers, Tyra Edward (Doris) Buttry, Clifford (Sandy) Buttry, and Danny (Vicky) Buttry; and several nieces and nephews. Arvil was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Kenneth Leadbetter, Cletus (Mary) Leadbetter, Wayne (Beth) Leadbetter; and his sisters Wanda (James) Williams, and Karen (James) Abbott and infant sister Dorothy.
