Evelyn I. Hovenden, 96, of Sturgis, SD passed away Friday, November 29, 2024 at Monument Health Hospital in Sturgis.
Evelyn was born January 26, 1928 in West Palm Beach, FL to Emery and Mabel (Hill) Adamson. She grew up and graduated high school in West Palm Beach, FL. Shortly after high school, Evelyn met and married Charles Hovenden while he was stationed at Army Air Corps - Morrison Field in West Palm Beach. After their marriage, Evelyn and Charles moved to North Bend, NE where they ran a farm and raised their three daughters. Evelyn was involved in every aspect of the farming operation and also worked at Blevin’s Popcorn Co. in North Bend for a number of years. After retirement from farming they moved to Fremont, NE in 2002. Evelyn’s husband passed in 2014 and Evelyn moved to Sturgis, SD in 2020 to be near her daughter and grandaughter’s family.
Evelyn enjoyed watching her daughter’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Known as GG to her great grandchildren, she was a doting Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She enjoyed traveling around the country with her husband and visiting her family in Florida during the winter months. She was an avid fan of classic movies, westerns and college sports. She liked to fish, play cards with her family and friends, and loved her long-haired Chihuahuas.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Shirley Kolm of Sandpoint, ID, Carol Hovenden of Las Vegas, NV and Nancy Clausen of Deadwood, SD; grandchildren, Melissa Moore of Dallas, TX, Angie Scott (husband Britt) of Sturgis, SD, Braden Pence (wife Cassie) of Seattle, WA and Matthew Pence of Sandpoint, ID; great grandchildren, Branden, Morgan, Hunter, Charlie and Frances.
She is preceded in death by her husband Charles, parents Emery and Mabel Adamson, sisters Louise Brown and Edna Covar, son-in-law’s Robert Pence and Bob Clausen and granddaughter Lynn Clausen Menze.
Graveside service will be 10 A.M., Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, NE. Pastor Tony Dawson will officiate. Visitation will be 5 P.M. to 7 P.M., Friday, December 6, 2024 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial will take place at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
