J. Guadalupe Ortega, age 76, of Elgin, IL, passed away on November 27, 2024. He was born August 3, 1948 in Mexico to his loving parents, Miguel Ortega Vera and Teresa Ochoa Patino.
J. Guadalupe played mariachi music for over 58 years. He met his wife in Cortazar, Guanajuato, Mexico at a community watering place where they were gathering water for plants. They were married 55 years. He raised eight children.
J. Guadalupe loved music. He played trumpet, violin, and in a mariachi band since he was 18 years old. He was very good at fixing violins and trumpets, as well as many other types of musical instruments. He also enjoyed working on cars, and gardening. He loved his family, and his sweet pastries.
J. Guadalupe was preceded in death by his sisters, Celina Ortega de Leon and Ortega Ochoa Maria de Jesus Ortega Ochoa; brothers, Miguel Ortega Ochoa and Francisco Ortega Ochoa; and grandson, Eduardo. He is survived by his wife, Josefina Ortega; children, Maria Guadalupe (Martin) Rosas, Herminia Aurora (Jose Luis Pelcastre) Ortega, Roberto (Deanna) Ortega, Edith (Cornelio Pelcastre) Ortega, Dalid Ivonne (Salvador Franco) Ortega, Alejandro Ortega, Miguel Ortega, and Rodrigo Ortega; parents, Miguel Ortega Vera and Teresa Ochoa Patino; sister, Mara del Socorro Ortega Ochoa; grandchildren, Christian, Jose, Abraham, Carlos, Michel, Chelsy, Vanesa, Robert, Raziel, Christopher, Sebastian, and Gibran; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with funeral service at 5:30pm, Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Fr. Robert Camacho will be officiating.
Interment will be private.
