Patricia Rendflesh Obituary

The Rendflesh family of Edmonton, AB is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Patricia “Pat” Eleanora Rendflesh on November 27, 2024, at the age of 75.

On March 15, 1949, Pat was born to Maurice and Estella (O’Brien) Cryderman in Chauvin, AB and later Westlock, AB. She graduated from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Education in 1971. Pat started teaching in Red Deer, followed by Stony Plain, before spending the duration of her career with the Edmonton Public School Board.

Pat met the love of her life, Dennis, on the final day of her third year of university in 1970. By 1972 they were married in Edmonton, where they have lived since.

Pat is survived by Dennis Wayne Rendflesh, her devoted husband of 52 years; and their two children: Brent (Janice) Rendflesh of Calgary, AB and Trisha (Jeff) Hillaby of Edmonton, AB; four grandchildren: Paige, Tessa, Carter, and Madelyn; as well as her brother, Larry (Theresa) Cryderman of Surrey, BC. She is predeceased by her parents.

The heart and soul of the family, Pat was proud of her family and held her grandchildren - one of her greatest accomplishments - in the highest regard. Being a super fan, it didn’t matter if it was a dance recital or an arena, she logged many miles and hours supporting her grandchildren’s pursuits. Familiar with the spectator viewing areas and temperature of every Alberta rink, Pat has been there, rink blanket in hand, for hundreds of faceoffs. She developed a keen eye for hockey and ringette; she could tell the outcome before the first whistle, just from the warm-up and appreciated a good goal or strong defensive play.

She was happiest when she was surrounded by family; Pat loved family holidays and she counted them as some of her fondest memories. Be it trips to the Okanagan, Surrey to visit her brother, a weekend at Lake Isle or Christmas in Mexico, if the family was there, you could count on Pat to be there, too.

Pat had a close circle of friends with whom she spent many extended afternoon teas and lunches during her retirement. Especially the days spent with her special friend, Jo, whom she leaned on for friendship and laughter for more than 40 years. If not at lunch, she may have been found in her kitchen making her famous mashed potatoes, which her grandson felt should be on Skip the Dishes.

Over the past few years, Pat faced numerous medical challenges which she tackled with poise, courage, and the determination to continue. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals who extended their medical expertise to Pat. And to the staff at the University of Alberta Hospital who, given the sudden turn of events, provided a space filled with care and dignity for Pat and her family to spend their final hours together. We ask that Memorial Donations be made in Pat’s honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (18407 60 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB) on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. A Reception will follow in the Parish Hall. The Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum (14611 Mark Messier Trail, Edmonton, AB) at 3:00 p.m.
