MADISON - Robert Lee Guerin, age 88, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on May 31, 1936, in Madison, Wis., the son of Robert and Rose (Kostrzak) Guerin.

Bob graduated from Central High School in 1954, and from UW-Madison in 1958. On Aug. 31, 1957, he married Shelby Jean Dorst at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Madison. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1960 until 1991, retiring as a full colonel. He was also an alderman in the City of Madison in 1964-1965.

Prior to his retirement in 1994, Bob worked as an insurance executive at Cuna Mutual Insurance companies and retired as an executive vice president of operations.  He started his insurance career with American Family Insurance in Madison. Bob enjoyed bird hunting and was a member of the Amateur Field Trial Clubs for America for many years.  He was an active member at Immaculate Heart of Mary for over 55 years. After retirement, Bob and his wife enjoyed traveling the world and spending time at their homes in Marion WI and in Green Valley Ariz.

Robert is survived by his wife, Shelby; children, Lance (Diana) Guerin, Lori (Brian) Witt, Brian (Cori) Guerin and Jason (Sheila) Guerin; brother, Ralph (Linda) Guerin; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024, with Father Chad Droessler presiding.  A graveside service with Military Honors will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday. A celebration of life will follow at 1855 SALOON AND GRILL, 218 S. Main St., Cottage Grove, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Thursday.
