Diane E. Devine, 83, of Westerly, passed away on November 27, 2024 at the Westerly Hospital. She was wife of the late Maurice C. Devine. She was born in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Edith Desillier.
Diane worked as a R.N. at the Westerly Hospital, and was a longtime communicant of St. Pius X Church. She was a member of the WHS Class of 59, and a graduate of the William W. Backus Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1962. Diane was previously employed at both Backus Hospital and the Electric Boat Yard Hospital. Mrs. Devine was a member of the Watch Hill Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and also a member of the folk music group at St. Clare Church for 15 years. She was also a charter member of the Columbiettes’ Narragansett Auxilliary 21 in Westerly. Diane did quite a bit of volunteer work with church related charities.
She is survived by her sons, Maurice J. “Rick” Devine, and Christopher M. Devine, both of Westerly, RI; her daughters, Karen M. Sherman (George), of Hope Valley, RI, and Diane M. Pagliarini (Kevin), of Wyoming, RI; She will be missed by her twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.; She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law, Susanne M. Devine of Sterling, CT; Diane was predeceased by her sister Betty Jo Nardone, and her daughter-in-law Linda Devine.
Visiting hours will be held in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce Street, Westerly on Monday from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 am at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm Street, Westerly, RI. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stillman Ave Ext., Pawcatuck, CT.
