Merdice Gupton Hannon, 91, of Raleigh, NC, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024 to join her sister Elizabeth. She was born on February 28, 1933 in Henderson, NC, where she graduated from Henderson High School before getting married to Frank Slate Sr and moving to Detroit, MI. After living in the northeast for several years, she came south and ultimately settled in Raleigh and Henderson for many years. While in Raleigh, she owned Motherland Day Nursery for many years. She earned her real estate license and sold time shares for several years. Finally, working as a sales representative R.J. Reynolds Company for several years before retiring in Henderson.

She had a strong work ethic and a never give up attitude. Her motto was ‘if you want it done, do it yourself’. She was very independent and enjoyed buying antique furniture and refinishing or reupholstering it.

In addition to her parents, Merdice was preceded in death by daughters Merdice Bernadette Hannon and Tara Teresa Hannon; her sister Elizabeth Gupton Ellis, brothers Harvey Gupton, Bobby Gupton, Mickey Gupton and Kenney Gupton.

She is survived by her son Frank Slate Jr (Martha) of Wake Forest, NC; daughters Bridget Hannon and Stacey Hannon; and brother Charles Gupton (Dorothy).

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jeff Mathis officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12-1 PM at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main St. Wake Forest, NC 27587.
