John J. Egan III Obituary

John J. Egan III, 90, of Gloucester, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024.


John was born in Gloucester to the late Dr. John J. Egan Jr. and Frances (Beckley) Egan.


John was a graduate of St. John’s Prep and Harvard College. He served in the Army as a medic at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C.


Thereafter, John commuted for 30 years from Weston, CT to New York City, where he was a vice-president for the brokerage firms Bache and Advest Corporation.


John loved to tell everyone he had a great life. He was captain of Cape Ann Paddle Tennis and commissioner of Greater Boston Paddle Tennis League. Playing, recruiting members, and winning matches was his joy.


In addition to his wife Janet, John is survived by his children, Julia, Sara (George), Suzanne (Mark) and John (Dawn); Polly (Joe); grandchildren, Taylor (Neil), Megan (Jolyn), Jack (Tasla), Quinn and Frances, Agatha and Eli (Lauren), John, Claire (Brian), Matthew, Tim (Caroline), Jess, and Cameron; great-grandchildren, Stella, Harper, Annabelle, and Chloe, and his sister, Josephine (Hank); and brother-in-law, Bill Stone.


He is predeceased by his sister, Ellen Stone.


His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joachim’s Church, Rockport, on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
