Melvin Belk Jr. was born to the late Mr. Melvin and Christine Belk Sr. on October 12, 1928. He departed this earthly life on Friday, November 29, 2024.
He received Christ at an early age. He was a member of First Washington Baptist Church of Lancaster, SC. There he was a member of the Trustee Board.
Mr. Melvin was a native of Lancaster, SC. He received his education through the Lancaster County School District.
He served in the United States Military in the 1950's. Mr. Melvin was a licensed Master Barber and the owner of Belk's Hair Center. He served as a professional barber in the Lancaster County area for decades. He demonstrated his love for the community by the support he offered to everyone he met. Whether it was supporting church community activities, community outreach events, patronizing local business or even through his love for playing checkers, he met no strangers. His acts of kindness impacted the hearts of all that knew and loved him.
He was united into Holy Matrimony to the late Mary Elliott Clyburn Belk.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memories, One Daughter, Tonya (Paul G.) Ross Walker; Lawrenceville, Ga; Three Sons, Barry Dixon, Lancaster, SC; Alvin Jenkins, Charleston, SC; Larry Clyburn, Washington, DC; Two Special Daughters, Robin Dixon and Estelle Jamison; Eleven Grandchildren, Fifteen Great Grandchildren, Seven Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Melvin Belk Sr. and his Mother Christine Belk.
