Allison Barton Haupt of Darien CT, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 20th at home after a valiant 7-year fight against breast cancer. Let it be known that she didnt lose this fight, rather she ran towards the battle, living her life in technicolor and with a ferocity that of a Spartan warrior. Allison was born on May 10, 1970 to Ann Wood Barton. She was raised briefly in Norwalk CT, eventually moving to Darien CT. She is survived by her adoring husband Colin Haupt, and her three loving and devoted children, Lily, Claire and Colin "Christopher". She is also survived by her mother Ann Wood Barton of Rowayton, CT ; her brother, Wes Barton and his wife, Suzanne, and their two children Brady and Ashley of Scottsdale, AZ; her sister-in-law Lara Stone, her husband Jeff, and their three children, Max, Nate and Sam of South Dartmouth, MA; her step-father in law and sister-in law, Gary Schnakenberg and Rebecca Schnakenberg of Ypsilanti, MI; her father and mother-in-law, Robert and Carol Haupt of NYC, as well as her aunt and uncle, many beloved cousins and extended family from California, and Arizona. Allison was pre-deceased by her aunt, Carol Wood Davis of Tucson AZ, and her mother-in-law, Deborah Hancock of Francestown, NH. Allison graduated from Darien High School, class of 1988 and then graduated in 1992 with a BS in Economics from Trinity College in Hartford CT. Allison was tested early in life when she took a primary care-giver role for her brother Wes when he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, as a senior in high school. In true fashion she put her career pursuits on hold for a year to return home to be at Wes side. She then began her career in financial services, working first at the Common Fund in Westport, CT as an Associate. Shortly thereafter she joined Rogers Casey Consulting, in Darien, CT working within Institutional Investment and Pension strategies alongside some of the most talented in the business. NYC came calling, and in the late 90s she joined Scudder Kemper Investments, Inc. as an Assistant Vice President. She was courted by Lord Abbett and Co LLC in 1999 by a dear friend and she found her home. At Lord Abbett, Allison took on several roles, including managing and leading the Institutional Investment marketing strategy and became one of only a handful of female partners in 2009. While at Lord Abbett she obtained her MBA in Marketing from The Stern School at NYU. She retired early in 2015, with the return of her cancer, to focus on her health and her family. Allison has been an inspiration to so many. Over the past 7 years she made it her purpose to focus on her family and to beat her disease. She researched new therapies, talked with world-renowned doctors in cancer research, and traveled to distant cities to speak with wellness pioneers. She was her own best advocate, and she wanted to live like each day was her last. She could write a memoir that would bring admiration to the bravest of souls, while maintaining an amazing sense of humor through it all. This zest for life kept her family and friends hopeful in her fight. Her children were her muse for this courage, and we were lucky to record her thoughts of her journey on Story Corps, the story telling co-op sponsored by NPR. Allison focused on travel and making memories her last several years. In just five years, she and her family together visited Belize, Mexico, The Caribbean, The Grand Canyon, Balboa Island, Las Vegas and many other places, making sure our bonds were forged. It was all in her master plan. Allison dedicated her life to serving others and saving animals as well. She volunteered to coach several of her childrens sports teams, took on the task of "NASA spreadsheet scheduler" for the Darien Youth Lacrosse program and volunteered her time at Family and Childrens Agency in Norwalk. She also adopted rescue dogs, whom stayed by her side until the end. She wasnt afraid of experimenting with incubating and hatching chicks, building hockey rinks and throwing a great party. She just loved her life in a town she called home for 48 years. Allison will be missed and never forgotten by so many she touched in her short time here on earth.
