Dale James. Thome, 88, of Waterloo died Wednesday, Nov. 27 at Birdie Cottage.
He was born Nov. 29, 1935 in Stacyville, son of Albert and Rose Hoerter Thome. He married Kathleen R. Thome on July 11, 1964, in Austin, Minn..
Dale graduated from Visitation Catholic High School and served our country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was employed with John Deere for 30 years as a machinist, retiring in 1994.
Dale was a member of Blessed Sacrament Community and enjoyed traveling overseas to visit the priests he had sponsored. He loved fishing and woodworking and had an avid interest in everything John Deere, especially the two cylinder tractors.
Survivors include: three daughters; Kim (Brian) Maschino of Sturgis SD, Dawn Bernal of Johnston and Ellyn (Todd) Perkins of Oelwein; two sons, Scott (Paula) Thome of Waterloo and Brian (Chris) Thome of Reinbeck; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother Dan Thome.
Preceded in death by wife, Kathleen; his parents; brothers; Gene, Leon, and Arthur Thome: sisters, Arlene Grell, and Mary Jane Foxen; a granddaughter and son-in-law.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 4 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVET Post 31 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 4:00-7:00p.m. Tuesday December 3 at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
