John Dykens, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 28, 2024, in Kentville, Nova Scotia. He was born on March 8, 1946, in Coventry, England, to Thomas and Julia (Shirley) Dykens. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Dykens, and sister-in-law, Barb Dykens, who shared a special bond with him. John's legacy lives on through his children: Kelley Dykens, Wendy Rodenhiser, Tammy Bruhm, and Nancy Dykens, and his sons-in-law, Christopher Rodenhiser and Joey Bruhm. His grandchildren, Christian Rodenhiser, Linsay Rodenhiser, Claire Rodenhiser, Savannah Dykens, and Anderson Dykens, as well as his great-granddaughter, Rosie Rodenhiser, were all deeply cherished by him.

He also leaves behind step-grandchildren, Keianno, Kierra, Koyokeito, Ashton, and Antwon Rolle. John was also a cherished brother-in-law to Jonathan Campbell.
John's life was marked by his dedication to his work, having spent over 40 years at Hostess/Frito Lay. His commitment to his profession was matched only by his devotion to his family and friends. He leaves behind a circle of close friends, including Bill and Gina Mansfield, Ken and Debbie Coleman, Valerie and Barry McGinnis, Marcey States, and David Madsen, who will deeply miss his presence in their lives.
In honor of John's memory, the family will gather at a later time. In lieu of a service, donations may be made to Valley Regional Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society, or Valley Hospice. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the palliative care and hospice teams for their professional and compassionate treatment. They also express their thanks to everyone who has offered their assistance, love, and support during this difficult time.
John Dykens will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. His absence will be deeply felt. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
