Ralph G. Nigl, 88, passed away peacefully at home on November 28th, 2024. He was born in Oshkosh, WI on July 29, 1936 to the late Rudy and Josephine (Kalous) Nigl.
After high school, he spent 3 years traveling with the U.S. Navy to ports all over the world; he made it to six of the seven continents. With Maribeth he covered the countries he didn’t make it to in the Navy. Those were stories he loved to share with people. He was an avid woodworker and in his early years he worked at Wood Products doing what he loved. Triangle Manufacturing was where he spent 30+ years, and finally retired at 63. He also worked in the family business at Rudy’s Shoe Rebuilders, where he saved “soles” with his Dad and brother, Ron Nigl.
Ralph knew someone everywhere he went. His youthful energy stayed strong throughout his life and was shared with all. He matured and aged into grace, charisma and energy and let’s not forget the caramel corn he made for everyone including the nurses, doctors, caregivers, neighbors and friends old and new. He was helpful to anyone that needed help. He was a model of Christian caring and compassion. He had a great sense of humor right up there with his energy level and will be greatly missed as our favorite turkey this Thanksgiving.
He is survived by his life partner, Maribeth Monday; his children and extended family include, Randy Nigl, Roxanne (Steve) Gajewski, Rusty (Medy) Nigl, Sara (Lorenz) Scherzer, Matthew (Tania) Nigl, Kim (Rod) Langhoff, Stacy (Steve) Paulus, Kathy Berens, Bekkei (Greg) Hibbard, Mitzi Rogers, and Andy (Jenny) Rogers. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Diane Gajewski, Heather (Tony) Crots, Christina (Kenji) Badger, Cherie Nigl, Hannah (Austin) Schimke, Peyton Nigl, Lauren Ruth Nigl, Tashina (Matt) Bolen, Emilio (Caylie) Hernandez, Kaitlin Scherzer, Dietrich Scherzer, Arika Scherzer, Lorenz Scherzer IV, Hans Scherzer, Maxwell Rogers, Alexia Berens, Stephanie (Jim) Genz, Michael Langhoff, Kyle Paulus, and Calvin Paulus. His great-grandchildren, Jailynn, Makayla, Madison, Aubrey, Parker, Carter, Deklyn, and Wrenlie. He is further survived by many nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Georgette Nigl; granddaughter, Meredith Scherzer; grandson, Harvick Nigl; brothers, Ron Nigl and Rudolph “Buck” Nigl; and nephew, Michael Nigl.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 at St. Jude the Apostle Parish (AKA St. Vincent) 1225 Oregon St., Oshkosh, Wisconsin, 54902 from 9:00am to 11:00am and Mass to follow at 11:00am.
