June 18, 1942 – November 28, 2024

Dr. Thomas Philip Reilly, Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, on November 28, 2024, at the age of 82. With a career spanning over five decades, Dr. Reilly made an indelible mark on the field of urology, teaching and mentoring hundreds of residents, while earning the respect of his colleagues, patients, and staff. His legacy of love, service, patriotism, compassion, and expertise will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Philip was born in Dallas, Texas, on June 18, 1942, to Thomas Philip and Sarah Davidson Reilly. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1960, where he excelled academically and athletically. He continued his education at Southern Methodist University (SMU), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964. During his time at SMU, Philip studied math and chemistry, and was a member of the school’s track team and the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

After graduating from SMU, Philip pursued his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where he was a member of the Phi Chi Medical Fraternity, graduating in 1968. Dr. Reilly’s postgraduate training included a Straight Medicine internship with the Dallas VA Hospital, a Fellowship in Pediatric Renal Diseases at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, and a year-long General Surgery residency followed by a Urology residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, which he completed in 1974.

Dr. Reilly’s professional journey took him to communities in Dallas, Austin, and Temple. For the last 27 years of his career, he was an integral part of Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, where he contributed to the urology division as a senior staff physician, associate professor, and director. Known for his collaborative and gentle spirit and his unwavering commitment to patient care, Philip was admired by his peers, staff, residents, and patients. He was known for giving each of his patients his undivided attention and care.

Dr. Reilly held numerous positions in local, state, and national medical organizations. For his contributions to medicine, he was board certified by The American Board of Urology for both adult and pediatric urology; he was selected as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons; he was elected a member of the American Urological Association; he was named Parkland Memorial Hospital’s “Staff Man of the Year” in 1982 and 1985; he was commissioned in the Naval Reserve and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Commander in 1983; beginning in 1996, he was annually selected by his peers as one of the “Best Doctors in America”; and in 2006, he was honored as a “Super Doctor” in Texas Monthly perennially until his retirement in 2020. He was truly defined by his faith, love for his family, humility, integrity, kindness, work ethic, and generosity. His passions included ongoing home improvement projects, classic rock ’n’ roll, the Texas Longhorns, and his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Philip was married to the love of his life, Donna Rose Kiselich, for 44 years. He was especially proud of his children, all of whom graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and shared his love of the Longhorns. He is survived by his wife, Donna, and children: Sally Gay Clifton (David), Thomas Philip Reilly III (Jennifer), Ann Poe (Jeffrey), John Reilly (Sara), Austin Reilly, Sarah Wilkins (Trent), and Rebecca Reilly. Philip, “Papa,” is also survived by his ten grandchildren, whom he adored: Grayson, Mallory, Thomas, James, Will, George, Charlie, Blair, Sally, and Jackson.
