Carl Masanobu Nishimura
June 10, 1941 - November 27, 2024
Carl passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, surrounded by his children. He was the seventh of nine children born to Frank Yosaburo and Maki Nishimura.
His parents immigrated from Japan in the late 1920’s, and he grew up on the family farm near Raymond, Alberta. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science and Education, and a Master of Education degree. He met his beloved wife, Carol at U of A and they lived happily in Edmonton for the next half-century, where they raised their three children.
Carl was a passionate educator, teaching secondary science and computers. He enjoyed photography, cooking, camping, and astronomy - Carl was often looking up at the stars and we know he is there amongst them now. He will be fondly remembered by his children, Warren (Tammy) of Calgary, Kevin in Edmonton, and Tamiko in Montreal; his grandchildren, Ethan, Taylor, and Aya; his brother, Arthur in Golden; and his sister, Eileen in Red Deer. Carl was predeceased by his wife, Carol and his siblings, Isamu, Danny, Kay, Marilyn, Albert, and Kimie.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in the spring or summer 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carl’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
