Margaret Schapansky Obituary

It is with great sadness but with a sense of rejoicing that the family of Margaret Schapansky, age 88, announce that her earthly journey peacefully ended on Thursday, November 28, 2024 with her family by her side, and now with joy her time in heaven has begun with her Lord and Saviour

Margaret (Penner) Schapansky was born on June 27, 1936 at Herbert, SK to Peter P. & Margaret Penner the first of four children. She completed grade 8 at Big Coulee school and started to work as housekeeper for farmers travelling as far Indian Head. In her late teens or early 20’s Margaret met a young man at a dance in Glen Kerr. On July 14, 1957 Margaret married this young man who became the love of her life, Wes Schapansky. They began their life together living in Morse and then moving to Waldeck in 1965. This union was blessed with three children Kelvin, Connie and Maurice. They later moved to Swift Current in 2001. After Wes passed away, she continued to live in the house in Swift Current for nine years looking after the large yard and garden all by herself. In 2020 she moved to the Prairie Pioneer Manor for only about a year until her health began to fade and she took up residence at Cypress House. The last two months of her life were spent at The Meadows where she experienced excellent and superb care and thoroughly enjoyed her time there. Margaret was a very hard worker and took pride in every task that was put before her. Some of her favorite tasks and joys were gardening, baking, crocheting and knitting, to name a few. The cold room was always full of preserves and freezers were always filed to the brim with fresh baking, cookies, buns, bread, and donuts. Margaret was also a housekeeper for twenty-two years before retiring, and during this time she worked for several different clients. She loved the outdoors in summer doing her gardening and tending her flowers. Margaret enjoyed camping by themselves or with family and friends at Cypress Hills, Saskatchewan Landing, North Battleford, and other various Saskatchewan camps. Margaret also enjoyed fishing from the shore but loved the opportunity she had to go on the boat with her sons for her 85th birthday. Margaret & Wes both loved Southern Gospel music and enjoyed going to Gospel Music Jamborees in Saskatchewan. Margaret devoted her life to caring for her family and cherished her husband, children, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Even though she enjoyed and loved her family so very much, the most important thing to her was her relationship with her Lord and Saviour. Margaret’s greatest wish was that all her family would also have a personal relationship with Jesus just as she had. She demonstrated her love for Jesus by teaching Sunday School for 27 years and sharing her garden produce and baking with friends and neighbors. Margaret & Wes spent countless hours memorizing and reciting scripture to each other. Margaret continued this practice until shortly before her passing. She faithfully prayed for her whole family and also had a prayer list where she prayed for others that she was made aware of.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Wes, in November 2011; twins in infancy; a brother; a sister; and by several brothers & sisters-in-law. She is survived by her children - Kelvin (Arlene) Schapansky, Connie (Bill) Schlamp, Maurice (Elaine) Schapansky; her grandchildren, Rachelle (Dave) Fuller, Juanita (Sebastian) Theiss, Domonique (Andy) Hodgson, Bryce Schlamp, Darin (Seanna) Schapansky, and Vanessa (Thomas) Steiner; her great grandchildren, Elijah, Faith, Elizabeth, Clay, Hannah, Charlie, Tyson, Cooper, and Victoria; a brother, Myles (Cindy) Penner; her sisters & brothers-in-law; and by  numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
