Jacob Cline Harshbarger Obituary

Jacob Cline Harshbarger (Jay) passed away November 27, 2024.  Born May 11, 1949, Jay was a devoted husband, father, Gandad, brother and friend to many.

Surviving is his wife of almost 54 years, Vickie Lynn; son Brad Harshbarger and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Andrew Harshbarger and Melanie Harshbarger; brother George Harshbarger; sisters Sue Ann Stone, Connie Hagan, and Lynn Long; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jay grew up in Salem and graduated from Andrew Lewis High School prior to joining the US Navy.  After serving he and his wife made their home in Salem.  He loved spending time with family and enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, and working on cars, especially the classics.  Those that knew him well would say that he was a jack of all trades.  There was not a project that he would not take on.  He was the “go to” person that everyone called when they could not figure something out, needed a hand with a project, or just needed him to do the job on his own.  He took great pride in helping his family and friends.  He was a true example of what we should all strive to be.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jay’s memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

At Jay’s request a graveside service for immediate family will be held.
