Charles Renfro, age 75, of Green Mountain, passed away to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Aster and Molly Wilcox Renfro. He was preceded in death by his first wife of many years, Brenda Belleson Renfro; sisters: Alma Heyer, Betty Byrd and “Dillie” Shirley Loyen; brothers: Paul, Sam and Clarence Renfro; two infant sisters: Blanche and Pearl Renfro; and a great-grandchild.
Charles was the owner and operator of Renfro Tree Service. He loved being outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a faithful member of Bowditch Union Church for a number of years. He and his wife, Sissy, were married for 25 wonderful years and never once spent a day or night apart. They spent time doing everything together, and had the kind of love that can’t be explained in words. Charles was the kindest, warm-hearted and giving person one could ever have met, and was the most loving and giving Dad and Papaw anyone could wish for. He was the heart of the family and will truly be missed by them and all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 25 years, Wanda “Sissy” Whitson Renfro; two daughters: Christie Stockton (Chris) of Bakersville and Peggy Evans (Bill) of Pigeon Roost; three grandchildren: Bobby Evans of Green Mountain, Krista Stockton of Bakersville, and Brandy Boone (Jamie) of Pigeon Roost; and four great-grandchildren: Addyson and Peyton Evans, and Charlie Lynn and Willa Jean Boone. Several other extended family survive him as well.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 5th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Ronnie Whitson and Rev. Donald Whitson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the services. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 6th at Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.
