Pastor Joe Simpson Jr., age 75, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at his home in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late Joe and Maudie Simpson. Joe worked his career as a lineman, beginning at the Local IBEW and later retiring from Northeastern REMC. He also faithfully served 44 years as a pastor of Branches of Christ Ministries in Fort Wayne. He will be remembered as a man who passionately gave his time and talents for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He also volunteered locally for the Shepherd's House and Choices Recovery Center. Joe was on the Board of Directors for the Appalachian Children's Home of Barbourville, KY, and loved playing both steel and lead guitar.
Joe is survived by his wife of 55 years, Earlene Simpson; daughters, Melissa (Scott) Burke and Sonya (Jim) Wheatcraft; four grandchildren, Mercedes Tyree, Logan Huffman, Alissa (Bradley) Rice, and Lexi (Landon) Reader; six great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Ray Simpson, Gelema Loomos, Mary Stevens, and Thea Roy Simpson
Joe was preceded in death by five siblings.
Calling is 2:00pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton St. The funeral service is 11:00 am, Friday, December 6, 2024 at Branches of Christ Ministries, 2010 E. Tillman Rd., with calling one hour prior. A graveside service will take place at Covington Memorial Gardens at 11:00 am on Monday, December 9, 2024.
